When you believe everything you have is a gift from God, the greatest thing to do is to pay forward the gifts you have been given. This is the belief that guides Curt ’79 and Judy Phillips. Born and raised in South Bend, Judy grew up a lifelong fan of Irish football, while it wasn’t until attending Notre Dame as an undergraduate that Curt’s love for the University began.
Curt and Judy met after college, got married, and then moved to Indianapolis for Curt’s career. While the couple lived in Indianapolis for over two decades, they always considered South Bend their true home and eventually moved back. Just as Curt and Judy felt called to return to South Bend, they also felt called to pay forward their gifts from God to Notre Dame. Curt and Judy wanted to make an impactful gift that represented their love for both Notre Dame and South Bend. This is why they decided to make an estate gift that will support scholarships for students in St. Joseph County.
To Curt and Judy, their decision to make an estate gift was nothing especially noble or magical: their hope is simply that students from their hometown will have the opportunity to attend Notre Dame and grow both academically and spiritually. However, to the students whose lives will forever be changed by this generosity, there is no denying the magic in such a gift.
